You must contact Indiana 811 at least two full working days before you dig to give member utilities enough time to mark the approximate location of their underground utilities on your property. If you do not contact Indiana 811, you run the risk of hitting a utility line, which could result in any number of undesirable consequences, including: disruption of utility service, property damages, fines, prosecution, lawsuits, injury or death. Your public utilities leading up to your utilities meter will be located through the 811 system. Anything past your utility meter will not be located. Past the meter is on the homeowner as the utility did not install those lines. It is a state law in Indiana to call Indiana Underground Plant Protection Service “Holey Moley” at 1-800-382-5544 or you can visit them at their website here.
